Lesson 6:
Feeding Snails in the Field
Stages of Feeding
The first 5-7 days after the relocation of the snail it should not be fed. This is a period of adaptation, when the baby gets used to new conditions. During this time, it feeds exclusively on perko. After 1-1.5 months, the snail begins to eat the feed only.
In 5-7 days we start to gradually add compound feed to the snails' diet. The feed should be placed evenly around the perimeter of the pallet. It is very important that the food should not fall to the ground, otherwise there will be unsanitary conditions.
Special Features of Feeding
It is necessary to feed when the sun sets, in the evening. Don't throw too much food: watch how much the snail eats. Of course, the snail will grow, it will need more food. Therefore, feed consumption will increase. But it is important to monitor how much they eat lest the food remain on the pallets.
Residues of the feed will be mixed with water from irrigation and rain, ferment and become a breeding ground for bacteria. In addition, there will be junk on the field all the time. Therefore, if you did give more feed than the snail could eat, it should be removed from the pallets in a timely manner.
The Diet of Snails
In general, snails eat not only perko and feed, but also rapeseed, winter wheat, flowers, carrots, parsley, lettuce, cabbage. However, for commercial cultivation of snails it is most recommended to grow perko, as well as to feed them with compound feed. 95% of weight gain of a snail is the result of its fattening with special forage. The compound feed is a source of micronutrients and vitamins for the snail. Therefore, the quality of the feed and compliance with the guidelines of its storage is important. It should be stored in a dry, clean, dark place for no longer than 3-6 months from the date of manufacture.
Compound feed for snails is divided into 3 types:
1. Feed for baby snail - we feed the snails with it for about 60 days after relacating to the field.
2. Feed for fattening of the snails (the main period of snails' staying in the field).
3. Food the snails are fed 2-3 weeks before harvesting. It is enriched with calcium and strengthens the shell.

We offer all these types of feed to our partners.
Approximately 20-25 t / ha of forage is required. That is, 1 kg of adult snail requires 1 kg of food for the whole season. Snails gain the most weight in July.
